Oh, blogging...
So, this blogging thing really doesn't work for me on any kind of a regular basis. Shyness, I suppose, is to blame - as I have no idea who reads this thing anyway. I have, however, gotten sucked into Facebook and have a Twitter plugin for that, so if you type in my email address susan@susanjacob.com you can find me there.

I'll be updating my portfolio in a while. I've gotten so much other work done that hasn't made it here that should be here - it's really been two years since I gave this site any sort of overhaul.

Also, I've recently gotten back into Argentine Tango! After doing that short documentary on it about six years ago I've found quite the tango scene in New Haven. So, if you're around for the Yale Tango Fest, hunt me down. I'm co-lighting designer for all of the milongas.

The Big Chop

Most people know that I have this incredibly long head of hair that I usually wear in a french braid or piled in braids on my head. Well, no longer! What used to go to my waist now sits just at my shoulders. I've decided to donate my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. The minimum was 8", but I just really wanted a new look, so I've donated 15"! It really feels different and so much lighter. This is not really much of a creative entry, but I do think it's a great cause that, as an artist, is already inspiring me with some new ideas for artwork. And on top of that, it feels like I've lost a pound in hair! If you want to checkout this cause, sponsored by the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the Women's Cancer Research Fund, click here. Hair donations are made into real-hair wigs and are distributed for free to cancer patients through the American Cancer Society’s wig banks. Men and women can contribute and it's a great cause that costs no more than mailing off your hair while giving so much to the people who receive the free wigs.

Paintings in Progress
I setup this blog mainly to show some of my work in progress so that I can share my creative journey with others. A finished painting is great, but getting there is so much better. The layers under a painting are more fascinating to me than the finished, in most cases. The first evolution I'll show is for a sci-fi abstract progression series. I started the series last year, so it's been a while since I've seriously approached it. I've finished the first painting, and I'll post that soon. The second painting is stretched and the first layer is down.
Until then...

New Union Member - Local 600

I'm now proudly a union member of the International Cinematographers Guild I.A.T.S.E. Local 600 as a Camera Assistant. For my non-union friends, I can still work non-union. I hope to make many more friends in the union. There's a meeting on Tuesday next week. I'll get sworn in then. I'm very excited because I've put this off since October, when I became eligible. It's just that CT has some shows coming up that I really want to get in on. The one catch is that they're union shows - which is wonderful, but I wasn't a member until now. So, let's hope this helps.
